Perfect Sunday

New York City vacation for New Yorkers ($200):

-- Take Metro North to the Fordham Stop ($10). Exit the station and make a left. Walk down Fordham Road (passing Fordham University on your left) until you get to Arthur Avenue (10 minutes). Make a right on Arthur.

-- Pick a place for lunch ($40 for two): Pasquales at the end of the street, Dominick's, all get good reviews.

-- Bronx Zoo. Walk to 187th Street, grab a pastry on the way ($5), and head east to Southern Boulevard. You'll hit the zoo. For $30 for two, you can see the zoo.

-- Botanical Garden. The Garden is gorgeous. For $30 for two, you can see the garden.

-- Outside the gates of the Botanical Garden, take a left and walk for 5-7 minutes until you reach Fordham Road/Pelham Parkway. You have to cross the intersection, and there will be a bus stop to your left. Take the BX12 to Pelham Bay, the last stop. Then take the BX29 to City Island.

-- Get off the bus once you hit the island and start seeing benches on your right.

-- Le Refuge Inn ($120) for a VERY nice dinner. Plenty of other places for less so.

-- Take the BX29 back where you came from, to Pelham Bay. There you can catch the 6 train back to Manhattan. It's about a 30-minute trip to 125th Street.
